Background and History
Mississippi Roast, also known as Slow Cooker Pepperoncini Pot Roast, is a beloved Southern dish that gained widespread popularity after a recipe by Robin Chapman went viral in 2016. Originating from Mississippi, this flavorful pot roast is characterized by its tangy and slightly spicy flavor profile, thanks to the addition of pepperoncini peppers and ranch seasoning.
Ingredients
1 (3-4 pound) chuck roast
1 packet (1 ounce) ranch seasoning mix
1 packet (1 ounce) au jus gravy mix
1/2 cup unsalted butter
8-10 pepperoncini peppers
Optional: mashed potatoes or crusty bread, for serving
Useful Facts
The combination of ranch seasoning and au jus gravy mix creates a rich and savory broth that infuses the roast with flavor as it cooks.
Pepperoncini peppers add a tangy and slightly spicy kick to the dish, but you can adjust the amount to suit your taste preferences.
Leftover Mississippi Roast can be used to make delicious sandwiches or repurposed into tacos or wraps.
Instructions
Place the chuck roast in the slow cooker insert.
Sprinkle the ranch seasoning mix and au jus gravy mix evenly over the roast.
Add the unsalted butter and pepperoncini peppers on top of the roast.
Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-6 hours, or until the roast is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
Once done, shred the roast using two forks and mix it with the flavorful juices in the slow cooker.
Serve the Mississippi Roast hot, accompanied by mashed potatoes or crusty bread to soak up the delicious gravy.
