Background and History:
Grilled salmon with a sweet and savory glaze made from maple syrup and soy sauce is a delicious and popular dish. It combines the natural richness of salmon with the caramelized flavors of maple and the umami notes of soy sauce, creating a harmonious and satisfying meal.
Ingredients:
- 4 salmon fillets (6 ounces each)
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
- Lemon wedges for serving
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, soy sauce, minced garlic, Dijon mustard, and olive oil. This mixture will be your marinade and glaze.
- Season the salmon fillets with a pinch of salt and black pepper.
- Place the salmon fillets in a resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish and pour half of the maple syrup and soy sauce mixture over them. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to marinate.
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat and oil the grates to prevent sticking.
- Remove the salmon from the marinade and discard the used marinade.
- Grill the salmon fillets for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they flake easily with a fork and have grill marks.
- During the last few minutes of grilling, baste the salmon with the reserved maple syrup and soy sauce glaze.
- Once the salmon is cooked to your desired doneness and has a caramelized glaze, remove it from the grill.
- Garnish with chopped fresh parsley (if desired) and serve with lemon wedges.
