Beef pepper steak, a classic dish in many cuisines around the world, has its roots in Chinese cuisine. It’s a delightful combination of tender beef slices, colorful bell peppers, onions, and a savory sauce infused with the bold flavor of black pepper. Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) beef steak, thinly sliced (such as sirloin or flank steak)
- 2 bell peppers (any color), thinly sliced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- ½ cup (120ml) beef broth or water
- Cooked rice or noodles, for serving
Instructions
- Marinate the beef slices with soy sauce, oyster sauce, minced garlic, and cornstarch. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the marinated beef slices to the skillet and cook until browned, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Cook until slightly softened, about 2-3 minutes.
- Return the cooked beef slices to the skillet. Stir in the beef broth (or water) and freshly ground black pepper.
- Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.
- Serve hot over cooked rice or noodles.
