All-American Burger Dog

Background and History

The All-American Burger Dog is a fun and innovative twist on two classic American favorites—the hamburger and the hot dog. While its exact origins are unclear, this hybrid creation has gained popularity in recent years, especially during outdoor grilling season and at summer cookouts. Combining the juicy goodness of a burger patty with the convenient shape of a hot dog, the All-American Burger Dog offers a deliciously unique dining experience that’s sure to impress your friends and family.

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 hot dog buns
  • Your favorite burger toppings (such as lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, cheese, ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise)
  • Optional toppings: bacon, avocado, sautéed mushrooms, jalapeños

Cooking Time  10-15 minutes

Prepare the Burger Dogs

Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a long, cylindrical shape resembling a hot dog.

Season the burger dogs generously with salt and pepper on all sides.

Grill or Cook

Preheat your grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. Place the burger dogs on the grill or in the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they are cooked through and reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).

Toast the Buns

While the burger dogs are cooking, lightly toast the hot dog buns on the grill or in a separate skillet until golden brown.

Place each cooked burger dog in a toasted hot dog bun. Add your favorite burger toppings on top of the burger dogs.

Serve the All-American Burger Dogs immediately, accompanied by additional condiments and sides if desired.
