Background and History

Croissant French Toast Bake marries the buttery indulgence of croissants with the classic charm of French toast, creating a delightful twist on a breakfast favorite. Originating from the concept of utilizing leftover croissants, this dish transforms them into a decadent and easy-to-make breakfast casserole, perfect for weekend brunch or special occasions.

Ingredients

6 large croissants, preferably day-old

1 cup blueberries (optional)

1 cup cream cheese, softened

6 large eggs

1 1/2 cups milk

1/2 cup maple syrup

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Pinch of salt

Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Maple syrup (for serving)

Instructions

Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare Croissants

Slice the croissants into 1-inch cubes. Place half of the cubes in a greased baking dish.

Add Blueberries and Cream Cheese

Sprinkle blueberries over the croissant cubes. Drop spoonfuls of softened cream cheese evenly over the croissants and blueberries. Top with the remaining croissant cubes.

Make Egg Mixture

In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, maple syrup, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until well combined.

Pour Over Croissants

Pour the egg mixture over the croissants, ensuring even coverage. Gently press down with a spatula to help the croissants absorb the liquid.

Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.

Cool and Dust

Allow the bake to cool for a few minutes. Dust with powdered sugar.

Serve

Slice into squares, serve warm, and drizzle with additional maple syrup if desired.
