Background and History
Triple Coffee Sweet Rolls elevate the classic sweet roll by infusing it with the rich and robust flavors of coffee in three delightful forms: brewed coffee, coffee extract, and coffee glaze. Born from a love for the comforting aroma and taste of coffee, this indulgent treat is a perfect marriage of breakfast and dessert.
Ingredients
For the Dough:
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
For the Filling:
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons finely ground coffee
For the Coffee Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1-2 tablespoons brewed coffee
- 1/2 teaspoon coffee extract (optional)
Instructions
Activate Yeast
In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
Prepare Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the activated yeast mixture with melted butter, salt, and flour. Knead until a soft dough forms. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
Roll Out Dough
On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a rectangle.
Make Filling
In a bowl, mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and finely ground coffee. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough.
Roll and Slice
Roll the dough into a log and slice into rolls. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish.
Second Rise
Allow the rolls to rise for an additional 30-45 minutes.
Bake
Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
Prepare Glaze
In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, brewed coffee, and coffee extract (if using). Adjust the consistency to your liking.
Glaze and Serve
Drizzle the coffee glaze over the warm rolls. Serve and enjoy!
